Kumbakkarai falls are lesser known falls that is found at the foothills of KOdaikanal. They are situvated along the Kodai-vellagavi-Periyakulam foot path. These falls have two stages in the first stage water gets collected in huge rock recesses which are named after wild animals such as tiger, elephant, snake etc. The pambar river then flows to the second stage before falling as the main waterfall. The water orginates in Kodaikanal Hills and flows along the rocks and finally reaches the foot hills. The travellers come here and take bath in the falls. The water flows throughout the year but in the rainy season the flow is very heavy but bathing is possible. There are no guest house available for the tourist who come here.In the present day Kumbakkarai is a tourist spot but in the early years it was dense forest with waterfalls. Thiru K.Chellam Iyer wanted Kumbakkarai water falls to be another tourist spot similar to courtallam. So he obtained permission from British government in 1942 and constructed dressing rooms for the tourist and a bathing place with his own expense and sooner Kumbakkarai became a tourist spot. So as a memorial a stone inscription is kept at the waterfalls that speaks about his contribution to the falls.
