Due to the increase in the petrol almost 80% of the shops and eateries in Kodaikanal downed shutters on Monday in order to support of the dawn to dusk “Bharat Bandh” call. As the result of the Bandh tourist who are arriving to Kodaikanal had a very tough time as there are only limited outlets were open. Shops that sell sundry items were totally locked in the lake area. The all time busy bus stand area were too deserted look since the restaurants did not open. The DMK,Congress,CPI and CPI(M) had appealed to te people to down shuters in protest against the centre for the steep rise in fuel prices. All the outlets were opened from 5PM but tourist were largely put on inconvenience. However normal life was not affected in schols, colleges, restaurants and business establishments functioned as usual. Police said that there was a good turnout at the collectorate for the public grievance meeting.
